Muavia Nasim progresses to next round of championships

Date published: 09 March 2015

Muavia Nasim, the Queensway ABC boxer, has progressed to the next round of the National Championships after defeating Midlands champion Regan Oliver at the Irish Centre in Birmingham.

Early on it was clear that both boxers’ styles were the same and cancelled each other out, however Nasim edged the round with cleaner shots.

In round two, Oliver came out knowing he was behind a round and stepped it up a level, catching Nasim with some good work and putting pressure on the Rochdale boxer and taking the round.

At one round each, round three was a must win for both boxers and they pushed each other hard with a very even round. However, Nasim finished the last 15 seconds with a flurry of shots which clinched the win.

Nasim is now through to the next stage of the championships in Liverpool.

Queensway Head Coach, David Hodkinson said: “This is a massive achievement for our boxer. The championships he is in is open class which means he could come up against lads of 30 plus fights.

“For us every round is a bonus, on paper he shouldn't have even got this far. Coming into the fight, Nasim’s opponent had just ended the run of a boxer who was unbeaten in ten fights, so we knew it was going to be a hard day.”
