Norden in emphatic away win at Royton

An all-round display from Daniel Salpietro led Norden to an emphatic away win over Royton in the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League on Saturday.

The professional took five for 25 then scored an unbeaten 69 as The Stags moved clear at the top of the table, with arch rivals Walsden having an open date and Littleborough going down to Unsworth.

Royton made a decent enough start, despite the loss of Walsh with 27 on the board.
Aq Zulfiqar and Geeth Alwiss played some forceful shots, mainly against the luckless Martin Smith who, on another day, might well have had three or four wickets.

Zulfiqar had 26 to his name when he went back to a delivery from Salpietro and was bowled. Ten runs later Alwiss smacked a delivery from Smith straight into the hands of Steve Wild at mid-off, and a collapse began to an all out 107.

Alan Durose was leg before to Salpietro for two, Brown snicked a delivery to Ash Gowers behind the stumps, and Jewell was leg before to Hashum Malik Salpietro then took a brilliant slips catch, running forward a couple of paces and diving to take the ball low with Sam Fielding having failed to score.

Nathan Sinkinson had made his way to 19, a knock which include one six, but he fell leg before to Salpietro when attempting a reverse sweep.

The tail didn’t wag, Salpietro completed his five for, and Malik took his figures to three for 17.

Salpietro was the dominant player in a reply which saw Norden on 51 before Simon Harman was bowled by Carl Taylor for 11.

The rest was almost plain sailing for Salpietro and Ash Gowers, the only scare for the duo coming when Gowers was dropped off what looked an easy chance.

The job was finished in the 25th over when Salpietro blasted a six.
