Hannah Lowe wins gold as Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club compete at the Trentham Regatta

Hannah Lowe won gold as Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club (HLRC) juniors competed in the beautiful settings of Trentham Gardens on a glorious sunny day on Sunday 7 June.

Molly Archbold and Hannah raced in the WJ14 single sculls in separate heats which they both won well to meet in the final alongside a Warrington rower. In a hard race Molly and Hannah gave their all with Hannah just winning gold.

In the J14 double sculls,  Harry Heywood and Tom Wing, racing for the first time together, were in a large field of nine crews. Although they put up a good fight they were unable to qualify for the final.

This was also the case for Maggie Page and Sally Tisdall later in the day who were up against some very strong opposition in the WJ14 double sculls.

One of the most exciting races of the day was provided by the WJ13 double sculls. The eight crews that competed in the heats put huge effort in, resulting in a final between the HLRC crew of Poppy Fletcher and Rosie Pickles, and two crews from Leicester RC. Despite a cross wind half way down the course, which caused difficulties all day, the young juniors showed the level of determination and grit which any elite athlete would be proud of, Leicester just winning in the final strokes.

In the WJ14 coxed quad race, Maggie Page, Molly Archbold, Sally Tisdall and Hannah Lowe, coxed by Amy Aspinall, rowed together for the first time since February, in only their second race. They lost to some seasoned opponents but put in a good effort.

Maurice Barber, racing in the J14 single sculls, held his own against more experienced competitors but could not make the final.

HLRC coach, Ian John said: “I am pleased with the effort all his team had put in, seeing great potential in the newer crews.

"With several more regattas lined up in the coming months, the hopes are high for the club juniors who train hard and have an excellent determination.”
