Hospital donation is big hit with young cricketers

Date published: 15 June 2015

A Rotary Club scheme aimed at helping young cricketers in the Rochdale area was given a boost when it received a cheque for £1,500 from a local hospital.

BMI Highfield Hospital is sponsoring the Rochdale Rotary Club’s annual charity dinner with West Indies legend Michael Holding as guest speaker to raise funds for the Rochdale Cricket Development Group.

Paul McGaughey, Executive Director of the hospital on Manchester Road, met with Rotary Club President Bob Chadwick and former international umpire John Holder to hand over the cheque.

He said: “Lancashire is renowned for its love of cricket and we are delighted to be able to give the youngsters a sporting chance to participate and enjoy the sport and know our donation will be put to very good use.”

The Development Group focusses on providing coaching and competitive fixtures for under 11s, 13, and 15s in the area.
