Norden claim victory at Clifton

Date published: 29 June 2015

For the second weekend running Norden claimed victory from a match at Clifton’s Manchester Road ground.

They followed up a JW Lees Bitter Wood Cup second round win by taking four points from a league game.

Clifton’s innings was painfully slow going, and at the halfway stage they had only 62 on the board for the loss of Harvey Fitton and professional Gareth Cross.

Chris Humphreys’ first 13 overs included eight maidens, and Martin Smith was also highly economical.

Will Davidson and Nitin Srivastava steadied the ship somewhat, although it never looked like capsizing, and they carried the total to 92 before Humphreys picked up his second wicket by having Davidson caught by Hashum Malik for 39.

Dean Morris went to a catch by Smith in the 38th over with the total on 112.
Srivistava, a bright spot in the home innings, made his way to 51 off 62 deliveries before snicking Smith to Ash Gowers behind the stumps.

Joe Brown was bowled by Smith without addition, Evans was caught by Salpietro, and Sam Dorsey was out in the final over of the 50 after offering a return catch to Salpietro.

Simon Harman and Salpietro made a steady start to the reply, and 82 runs were on the board when the latter was leg before to Cross.

Harman suffered the same fate nine runs later, and Rehan Udwadia became another victim of Cross.

Ash Gowers compiled an unbeaten 52 off 59 balls, with seven fours and a six.

Simon North was leg before to Cross with Stags only two short of victory, and the win was completed with eight overs in hand.
