Bad weekend for Norden

A bad weekend for Norden started on Saturday when they crashed to a heavy defeat at Scott Street and lost more ground on CLL leaders Walsden.

It did look like being a decent day when Jake Hooson was caught by Steve Pimm with only three on the board, but Shubham Harkel, who had a couple of lives, and Nick Barker took the total up to 95 before Harkel was caught by Simon Harman for 71.

Barker and Umesh Karunaratne continued to push the rate, but wickets then began to tumble to the bowling of Steve Wild and Daniel Salpietro and Walsden found themselves on 181 for eight having been 149 for two.

Unfortunately for Stags, Walsden are one of those sides which bats all the way down, and Chris Dewhirst largely played a watching role of 16 as Jamie Shackleton blasted five sixes in a 15-ball knock of 34.

Walsden ended on 228 for eight, and Stags never looked like getting anywhere near that target.

Salpietro bagged a duck when bowled by Steve Barker, Simon Harman was caught behind off Steve Barker for 11, Ash Gowers was bowled by Karunaratne for 14 and Stags were 26 for three.

Wickets continued to fall, Simon North being the only bright light for Stags with his 35, and at 87 for seven it was almost start the car time.

Steve Wild made 18 before being run out, and it was all over soon after with Stags on 132, Joe Gale having taken a bit of stick in his one over which cost 14, 12 of those coming in boundaries from Hashum Malik.
