Mayfield 60 - 18 Woolston

Date published: 24 August 2015

Mayfield NWML side finally achieved their potential on Saturday at the Mayfield Sports Centre as they demolished Warrington side Woolston.

Right from the kick off Mayfield took the game to their opponents, buoyed by the inclusion of Aidan Gleeson and a couple of other players who have first team experience they made this game look easy.

Stefan Howard at hooker urged his forwards on and when full back Komai Nualamatua came into the line there was only one outcome.

Woolston couldn't handle the strong running Mayfield forwards with Gaz Ellison, Mark Biggins and Lee Atkinson busting tackles at will.

They were backed up by John Marsland and sean Snape the latter bagged himself four tries off the good work of his pack and great ball from Kieran Harmer.

Other scores came from Gaz Ellison, Lee Atkinson, John Marsland, Aidan Gleeson and Nick Hargreaves.

There were some great performances from the team with the younger lads taking confidence from the more experienced players

Hargreaves ran like a train all afternoon as did Ellison and Biggins but the cream of the crop was Sean Snape who looked dangerous everytime he touched the ball. His appetite for work and his willingness to do the hard yards was an inspiration to others around him.

Snape took the man-of-the-match award but he run close by Ellison and Hargreaves.

The result moves Dave Harmer's side up a place in the table and gives them a very realistic chance of avoiding the drop come the end of the season.
