The clubs old building was a former scout hut and was donated to them by Our Lady and St Paul’s Church, but the new premises will be built on a separate site.

A club spokesperson said: “We have had a meeting with Rochdale Council regarding a piece of land on Darnhill on which we wish to rebuild the new club facilities for Darnhill and Heywood Boxing Club. The meeting went exceptionally well and they have all but given us the green light to start proceeding with the rebuild. We are currently awaiting on terms of lease and a few other measures, which hopefully will be confirmed in due course.

“As we speak, we are unable to confirm the actual location due to protocol and legalities, but once this is passed we will be making further announcements.

"On behalf of all club and committee members, may we thank everybody that has helped get us this far in such a short space of time.”

Fire crews were called to the boxing club in the early hours of Wednesday 22 April, following reports of smoke and flames coming from the building. The club was destroyed in what was suspected to be an arson attack.
