Bury Broncos 16 - 22 Mayfield

Date published: 05 October 2015

The Mayfield NWML side ended their season with a win at Bury on Saturday.

A solid if uninspiring performance from the young side was enough to see them through against a strong Broncos team.

There were good performances from the youngsters in the side with Billy Buckley, Tom Fitz, Jordan Strand and Kenny Rowland showing they are going to be pushing for first team spots soon if they continue to improve at the rate they have this season.

Rowland's tackling was superb, bringing down the opposition forwards time and time again with copy book, round the bootlace tackles.

Playing down the large slope in the first half Mayfield should have sealed the game but trailed 10 - 6 at half time after some indifferent rugby. Only a Nick Hargreaves try kept them in with a shout.

Coming down the hill in the second half Broncos must have thought they would take the points but a solid defensive effort kept them at bay and restricted them to one further try.

Rowland, Strand and Joe Qanuici worked hard in this department while the Percy brothers Sean Snape and Craig White added some go forward. Tries came from Andy Taylor, Sean Snape and Joe Qanuici with John Marsland adding three conversions.
