Neville Fletcher becomes life member of CLL

Date published: 06 October 2015

Neville Fletcher will become a life member of the Central Lancashire Cricket League when the league holds its last ever annual general meeting next month.

Club delegates voted unanimously on a proposal at their October meeting that Mr Fletcher should be honoured.

It is hoped current life memberships in the CLL and Saddleworth and District League will be carried over into the J W Lees Pennine League.

Neville Fletcher played in the CLL in his younger days and then became an umpire.

For the last 14 years he has been the CLL umpires’ secretary, and in the last nine years he has been deputy league chairman (two years) and league chairman.

League president David Shepherd said: “It has been a very difficult year, and Neville is fully aware of some criticism he has had as the CLL moved towards its end. But as always he continued to be dedicated to both jobs.”

Mr Fletcher said: “I take this as a great honour, as I have followed in the footsteps of so many great people.

“I have, and will continue to have, many excellent memories of CLL clubs and people.”

The final CLL presentation night will be at Rochdale Cricket Club on 13 November.

MC’s will be Alistair Bolingbroke and Alan Stuttard, and the guest will be 2011 Britain’s Got Talent finalist, comedy impressionist Leslie Gibson.
