Mayfield Mustangs mascots for Super League Grand finale

Date published: 13 October 2015

Most children can only dream about running out onto the hallowed turf at Old Trafford and to be able to do that whilst leading out your favourite rugby league stars must be beyond even the wildest dreams of most.

Thanks to Emma Patterson, Mayfield Mustangs under 10s team manager, her team did just that as they led out Leeds Rhinos for their epic battle with Wigan Warriors in the Super League Grand finale.

In front of a record crowd of over 73,000 people the Mayfield under 10s ran out hand in hand with the players as they prepared for the game.

The honour was awarded in recognition of the team’s efforts this season after taking part in other rugby league events, selling tickets and holding a Rhinos training camp at the club in the summer.

Mayfield took three coach loads of spectators to the game, a total of over 160 people to witness the team’s achievement and see what was one of the best finals for years with Leeds eventually winning a thrilling encounter 22 - 20.

This was a day that the children will remember for the rest of their lives and they and their parents would like to thank the Rhinos, the rugby league, coach John Marsland and most of all Emma for making it all possible.
