Town Taxi donates £300 to Rochdale Vipers ten pin-bowling club

Date published: 18 November 2015

Rochdale taxi company Town Taxi has donated £300 to the Rochdale Vipers ten pin-bowling club.

The generous donation will now mean that the team can continue over the next year and take part in the British Blind Sports Trios tournament.

Dave Hobson, from Rochdale Vipers, said: “The donation will really help us and is very much appreciated. It will help to pay for expenses incurred during the season and will ensure that the players can get to the final, which usually takes place in Sheffield in May.

“It also ensures that we can continue over the next year.”

Rochdale Vipers, short for Rochdale Visually Impaired Persons, is affiliated to the British Blind Sport and Rochdale Additional Needs Service (RANS). Set up in 2005, the club is to enable young people with visual impairment to take part in a sporting activity and to socialise with other people in similar situations.

Town Taxi has had a long association with the Vipers, as they have transported some young people with visual impairment to and from schools for many years and have built up a relationship with team.

Town Taxi has been established in Rochdale for over 40 years.

James Grimshaw, from Town Taxi, said: “We thought that there is often a lot of bad news in the press about taxi drivers and we wanted to show the positive side to taxi drivers. We have a personal association with the vipers so we decided to give them a donation to help them continue.”

Rochdale Vipers are welcoming new players between the ages of 9 and 18. They will need a certificate of visual impairment, have to live in the borough of Rochdale and be able to bowl a ball independently.
