Rochdale Hockey Club half season review

Date published: 02 December 2015

Rochdale were quickly out of the blocks with an 8-0 drubbing at home over Bolton, a great start to the season.

The men then hit a bit of a sticky patch with consecutive away losses to Leyland & Chorley and then South Lakes sandwiched between a home win against Didsbury Northern fourths.

In the Cup, a difficult away win over Horwich with a mixed firsts and seocnd team was followed by the only home defeat of the season so far against a resilient Carlisle side, losing 3-2 in the closing minutes after fighting back to level in the second half.

Following that defeat, a flood of goals with three consecutive league wins, 7-2 away at Southport, 9-1 at home to long-time rivals Golbourne and a solid 6-3 win away at table toppers Prescot.

Cup second round was forfeited by Warrington, leaving Rochdale with a difficult semi-final against Mossley Hill firsts in January.

A weather hit home match followed against Didsbury Northern thirds in which it would have been more useful to have a canoe rather than a hockey stick. The result a disappointing 2-2 draw after Rochdale lead 2-0 at half time.

Fourth in the league, eight points from the top but with a game in hand; all still to play for in what is a very open division this year.
