Royal Ascot or Rochdale Ascot?

It may have been the Royal Ascot event in York on Thursday 16 June, but here in Rochdale we had something a little warmer and drier in store, as the NSPCC Rochdale Branch organised an Ascot Ladies Day at the Nutters Restaurant in Norden.

Hundreds of smartly-dressed hopefuls gathered into Nutters to watch to Royal Ascot on the big screen, after having a Champagne reception and a special Nutters 3 course meal.

Lis Kay, Chairman of the NSPCC Rochdale Branch, worked very hard alongside husband and Treasurer John Kay, to make the event extra special, and Mr. Kay was pleased to announce that a staggering £2500 had been raised for the NSPCC:

“I’m very pleased to be raising money for the NSPCC, it’s such a very good cause. I’m so grateful to everyone involved, Lis has worked very hard and we’ve had lots of help from lots of people, so thank you.”

Prizes were given out for a correct selection of the first, second or third horse in each race. The prizes were:

First Prize – Magnum of Champagne donated by Karl Matthews, Matthews Quality Meats, Rochdale Online Ltd

Second Prize - Magnum of Champagne donated by Old Hucky’s Restaurant, Heywood

Third Prize – Bottle of Champagne donated by Jack Howarth, Rochdale NSPCC Branch Life President

Andrew Nutter, owner of the Nutters Restaurant, gave out the ‘Nutters Prize’ to one lucky winner called Carole Kennedy, who won a champagne evening with a 6 course meal, plus a visit round the kitchens and a demonstration by Andrew. Carole said: “I’m definitely happy with that! Hopefully I’ll get to try my hand at cooking in the kitchens. It’s really nice of Andy to donate so much for a raffle prize.”

The main sponsors of the event were Rochdale Online and Molesworths Bright Clegg Solicitors (www.molesworths.com), along with Shutters Video (www.shuttersvideo.com) who filmed the event, and Summit Studios (SummitStudios)who took photos.
