Another sell-out event took place at the Town Hall last Saturday as Rochdale Mayor, Councillor Ashley Dearnley, hosted his Grand Charity Ball in support of his chosen charity, Springhill Hospice.
A successful and entertaining evening was enjoyed by all, with the Mayor of Rochdale being joined by all other Mayors Greater Manchester District. The first of more than 150 guests arrived at 7pm and they were treated to a bucks fizz reception with appetisers, whilst local band ‘Highly Strung’ played in the background.
A suave 5 course meal was then served in the Great Hall and the attendees enjoyed a piano accompaniment with their food and wine. After an enjoyable and filling meal, further entertainment followed in the form of the Tommy Lowe Big Band and the attendees danced the night away, not leaving the dance floor until after midnight. The event marked a successful return for the Major's ball following its absence for the last few years, whilst all the profits made will provide a welcome boost to the Springhill Hospice coffers.
Speaking after the event the Mayor commented on an enjoyable evening, "It was very successful and we raised in the region of £4,000 for the Springhill Hospice. A lot of people were particularly glad that we re-introduced the Mayor's Ball and I was really delighted with the evening after it has been sadly missed for the last few years. I enjoyed a lovely meal and I would just like to thank everyone involved for making it such a successful night."
