Heywood bonfire and firework display

Date published: 04 November 2009

Thousands turned out, despite the rain and ankle deep mud, for the annual Heywood bonfire and firework display tonight (Wednesday 4 November).

The crowds were treated to a huge bonfire and spectacular firework display, as well as all the fun of Silcock’s fair.

Three-year-old Olivia Shepherd, who was with her mum Gemma, loved the firework display, she said: “Fireworks, colours, fireworks, colours” – which mum Gemma translated to mean “she loves the colourful fireworks”.

Amongst the stalls was what has to be one of the oldest, if not oldest, food stalls still operating, ‘Ye Olde Potatoes’ has been around over 100 years and passed down from great-grandfather, to grandfather, to father and now to son Joe Howcroft, who attended Bamford Road Primary School over 50 years ago.
