Members of the Knowldale Car Club joined together to celebrate a year of achievements in style at their annual presentation evening at the Ratcliffe Function Suite.
Dinner, a raffle and bingo took place before the all important awards were presented by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift.
Knowdale Car Club was set up in 1951, and over the years has had many successes. More recent times have seen the clubs activity reduced so the organisers decided to pull out all the stops for the presentation evening to hopefully interest more youngsters in becoming members.
Club President Alan Kitson said: “We want to get the club back on its feet and give it the recognition it deserves. It is great to see people here tonight and to recognise the club's achievements over the year.”
Local rally co-driver Joe Cruttenden, 19, is very much in support of the club, he said: “I really enjoy everything they do here. Everyone in the club does a really good job.”
Mr Cruttenden is in his second year at the University of Central Lancashire studying motorsports and he hopes to persue his dream career with the help of the club.
Mayor Swift said: “It is so good to see one of the most well established and well run car clubs in England here in Rochdale. They have a lot planned for the future and it is great that they are encouraging more young people to get involved with motorsports.
"Knowdale already have one British junior champion which is fantastic. They certainly do Rochdale proud.
“The people involved here do so well for Rochdale and I wish them much more success in the future.”
The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, presented the following awards:
- Organisers Trophy – Steve Tweedale
- Social Shield: Treasure Hunt Winner – Pete Tweedale & Lee Tricket
- Social Shield: Second Place Treasure Hunt – Kevin Vose & Bernadette Connelly
- Best Historic under 1000cc Hillman Imp Driver – Alan Kitson
