Over 100 people attended the Rochdale Parachute Regiment’s dinner dance held at the Broadfield Hotel last night (Saturday 2 October 2010).
This year’s event commemorated 10 years since A Company group 1 PARA successfully supported UK Special Forces in Sierra Leone during Op Barras.
The operation was to rescue British soldiers taken hostage by the rebel West Side Boys.
There were 128 people in attendance, including WW2 veterans Capt. Harold Kirkman and Jack Heaton, as well as veterans of Op Barras, other Association members and their partners.
The meal was followed by the toasts, and a moving description of Op Barras by Capt. Matthews.
Entertainment was provided by local singer Sue Hasset, which rounded off a great evening for all involved.
