Spectacular firework display in Town Centre

Rochdale Town Centre was packed this evening (Friday 5 November 2010) for a spectacular firework display.
Families flooded into the centre to enjoy the display and a fun and friendly funfair which included a funhouse, spinning teacups and hook-a-duck.
South Parade, which was closed to traffic, and The Butts were filled with visitors watching the spectacular fireworks fill the night sky. At the end of the display a cheer erupted from the pleased crowd.
Debbie O’Brien, from Rochdale Town Centre Management, who organised the event, said: “The turnout is fantastic. There is a really good feeling and a great atmosphere in the town. It is really nice to be here on a Friday night as families don’t have to rush off. Just looking around you can see how busy it is. It’s great.”

Who would think that we're in the middle of a double-dip recession when all that money has been made into smoke?
Great priorities the council has!
Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Do you people not have anything better to do other than moan?
It seems that the Council have got something right. Keeping fireworks in one place is far better than having anyone injured. As for closing the South Parade, did they place barricades at either end? Because the notices saying who and when vehicles can access and egress this part of the highway is completely ignored - one of the problems may be people cannot read.
People like you will moan about anything. Its your nature! Busy bodies that have nothing better to do. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but if there wasn't a fireworks display people would moan! If it isn't fireworks, its Feel Good, if it isn't Feel Good its something else! I am affected in the council cuts but a fireworks display which brings a little happiness and excitement to the town isn't going to change mine or anyone else's position.

The following paragraph made me laugh out loud, especially the part about The Butts. Read on: "South Parade, which was closed to traffic, and The Butts, were filled with visitors watching the spectacular fireworks fill the night sky."
