Rewards Assemblies

On the last day of term we celebrated the achievements of all of our students who have made excellent progress this year. All students were invited to a special assembly for their year group. We also invited our students’ families who came to celebrate with us.

Various awards were distributed including; Head of Year awards, form tutor awards, 100% attendance awards and the Catenian Award, which celebrates students who have overcome personal adversity.

There were also awards for students who had received no C3 or C4 behaviour points – over 800 students were rewarded with boxes of chocolates and vivos!

Other students also received prizes such as ‘Vivos’ and vouchers. Some of the prestigious awards are listed below. Congratulations to all students who have made outstanding progress or demonstrated an excellent attitude this year.

Expressive Arts News

Theatre trip: Pupils who participated in the school show have attended a rewards trip. They attended a performance of 'Into the Woods' with their Expressive Arts teachers. These pupils are a credit to the school. The months of hard work and commitment they demonstrated meant that the production of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' was a great success.

Year 11 Progress and Attainment Evening

On Thursday 14 January we will be inviting the parents and carers of all of our year 11 students to attend meetings with their subject teachers. Students have been given letters and we will be encouraging all students to make appointments with their teachers.

We are also inviting all parents to attend a session on revision tips and how to support your child during this important year. These will be held at several intervals throughout the evening. PE: Change of Policy

Letters have been sent to the parents and carers all of students regarding PE kit and excuse notes.

Firstly, if you need to excuse your child from the practical element of their PE lesson due to medical reasons, please can you ensure that you write a note in their planner on the date you wish to excuse them (notes on paper will not be accepted).

Secondly, even if your child has been excused from the practical element of the course, they will be expected to bring full PE kit to all lessons. This decision has been made to allow all students to take part in their planned lesson even where they are unable to physically perform. It allows students to still make progress in the subject by developing their leadership, coaching and officiating skills as well as improving their ability to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of their peers. It also means that students will be able to participate in outdoor lessons without getting their uniform dirty or wet when the weather is poor.

If students do not to bring their PE kit, they will be given kit to borrow during the lesson and will be given a break time detention. This is in line with the current PE policy when students fail to bring their PE kit to lesson.

The policy change will be implemented from Tuesday, 5 January 2016. Students will be informed about the change during form time. I would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation in this matter and ask that you only write notes to excuse your child from performance in practical sessions where it is unavoidable. Miss Hatton.
