Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 08 January 2016

Welcome back to school as always, the children immediately settled back into their learning with enthusiasm and focus. Well done children!

An amount of £140 was raised on the non- uniform day which took place on 17 December when the children were able to come in to school in their home clothes or Christmas jumpers, in order to raise money for our nominated charity this year “Rochdale Heartbeat” who are kindly donating a defibrillator to our school.

A focus group of Year 6 children are taking part in this web-based 3rd Space Maths programme that gives them access to a specialist Maths tutor to work with them on improving areas that have been picked up here at Hamer through our rigorous assessment and gaps analysis. Thank you to the parents of this group of children who recently came in to learn more about this programme.

Miss Holden has arranged for some hula hoop professionals to come in to teach the children how to use a hoop for fitness during some lunch-times. Not all children will be able to take part this time, but if the project is a success, more children may get the opportunity to join in at a later date.

Our Early Years Foundation children enjoyed a visit on Friday 8 January, from Rochdale Fire Service. They thoroughly enjoyed meeting the officers as part of their “people who help us” learning topic. The children who felt brave enough were able to spray the hose and they were even kind enough to let Mr Moore have a turn!

Parents may have been following the weather forecast as we do here at Hamer and a period of cold weather is anticipated from this weekend. Please make sure that children bring warm coats, hats, gloves and scarves so that they can still be warm when playing or learning outdoors. Also, a reminder that winter boots may be worn on the way to school with ordinary plain black footwear to change into in school. Thank you.

Hamer school officially welcomes Mrs Jakeman to the Early Year Foundation Stage team after a period of time with us already on supply.
