The following Year 10 pupils took part in a competition from the British Mycological Society promoting fungal science for UK Fungus Day. This was part of a homework of which the first round was completed in school with the successful candidates being sent off for the full competition.

These pupils work were acknowledged by the British Mycological Society (BMS) for taking part in the competition:

  • Aamir Saleem P1,
  • Zain Ali O4,
  • Myeesha Ahmed O10,
  • Jessica Lord P10
  • Ayaaz Mohammad C5

In which their contribution has secured resources for not only the Science Faculty here at school but also our local primary feeder schools in the form of a book and digital resources.

A special congratulations goes to Zakariya Ahmed L3 whose trifold leaflet describing Amphibian decline as a result of fungi meant that he was awarded a cheque for £50.00 from the BMS presented by our headteacher Janice Allen.

The Foreign Language Spelling bee is a competition for students in year 7 to practise and improve their vocabulary, spelling and memory skills in a foreign language. Over 200 students took part in the completion here at school where they had to learn 50 words in Spanish of French and spell as many words as possible in a minute using the correct alphabet and punctuation. This competition has been a massive success with 16 students going through to stage 2.The second stage involves students learning another 50 words and then competing against all class winners. The students who went through were:

For French: Kenza Rashid, Suman Kamran, Nafisa Tahir, Mahnoor Ali, Reshma begum, Saharah Sajid, Zakir Ahmad, and Iman Kazmi.

For Spanish: Farah Khan, Shannon Hitchings, Irfaan Ahmmed, Tayyib Shahid, Alisha Uddin, Hizzar Shahzada, Nafisa Akter Chowdhury, and Muskaan Hussain.

Each half term the Languages department nominate those pupils who have deserved the award of Luinguist of the Half Term, for a variety of reasons: A determined attitude, growth in confidence, or a positive contribution in class. Here are the linguists for November and December 2015:
