Siddal Moor Students’ Handball Victory

Josh McDaid and Harry Thorpe are celebrating after a handball victory, as part of the Greater Manchester under 16 Handball Squad.

The Siddal Moor Sports College students were part of the winning team who played Middlesex on Sunday 3 January, managing to pull off a winning 11-10.

Siddal Moor College, described the boys as ‘A real credit to the school, both students were absolute stars and played with passion and determination’.

This season the Greater Manchester squad reached the National Finals which were held at the weekend on Sunday 3 January at Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury.

Other counties who qualified were; Essex, Middlesex, Somerset and Staffordshire. Each team played against each other throughout the day and Greater Manchester managed to come 2nd in the group, being narrowly topped by Middlesex.

Then it was all to play for in the final, this was against an unbeaten Middlesex team, after full-time the score was level at 10-10.

Five minutes extra time had to be played and Greater Manchester managed to pull it off winning 11-10.
