Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 05 February 2016

Our nominated charity, Rochdale Heartbeat came in to assembly on Monday to receive donations from both Hamer and Springside schools that the children raised as a result of our last non uniform day.

We were presented with our own defibrillator from the charity, and training sessions on how to use it will soon be put on for staff, older children and parents. We are very grateful to the charity for this vital donation to our site.

The M6 Theatre Company is pleased to say how well the recent performance of Tadpoles went and would like to thank our school for promoting the event. The next event will be at Touchstones on Sunday 7 February between 10.30 and 2.00pm. There are exciting activities available for the children to get involved with including film making, eye-mask making, music and storytelling. Please go along we are sure it will be a fantastic event.

It is with sadness and great respect that Hamer School says goodbye, at half term, to our PE Coach, Mr Casey. Mr Casey has worked at Hamer school for 14 years and we wish him luck in his new career adventures and hope to hear all about his success soon, even though his lovely presence around school will indeed be missed. Good luck and thank you Mr Casey.

All children are working really hard on their spellings and they are tested on these and given constant help to improve with the spelling patterns they find trickiest. We will now be sending these home and ask that please could all parents request that children show them their tests at home so parents can also see where the children need more practice and are able to celebrate their progress. Spelling is a focus for the school so parental support and enthusiasm about this is really helpful for the children.

We would like to remind the families of children that are going on the Year 5 residential trip to Robinwood that suitcases need to be brought into school on Monday 8 February.

Please can we remind parents that school cannot and does not authorise holidays during term time and that we do encourage all holidays/ family visits abroad to only happen during school holidays.

Mrs Coward will be hosting a number of events in order to get vital feedback for school in preparation for any future inspection and also so we can learn from our parents’ point of view about what we are doing well and what we need to get better at. Thank you in advance of parental support with these. Mrs Coward will be in touch soon!

A reminder that school will close at 3.15pm on Friday 12 February 2016 and reopen on Monday 22 February 2016.
