We would thank all the parents who attended the Year 7 and Year 10 Tutor Evening. It was so wonderful to meet so many parents and have a chance to discuss the progress of their children. If there are any parents who were unable to attend and would like to discuss their child please contact the Year Managers Ms Murphy and Mr McNicholas to arrange an alternative appointment.
We have received a letter from Rainbow Trust thanking Springhill High School for the donation of £210 raised by making cards and selling roses made earlier in the year.
Mrs Taylor has requested that any overdue books be returned to the Library as soon as possible.
As part of our Arts College status, staff from the CPA dept. are working with local primary schools and community groups. We would like to praise the Drama work that is being achieved by Hamer and the children's story and performance being produced by a woman's group at Surestart, Newbold. Also, well done to the young mother's group at Surestart, Newbold who have been working to produce a book of illustrations and advice for other young people finding themselves pregnant at a young age. Finally, congratulations to pupils from Belfield and Lowerplace who produced 'flags' for a display at the launch of the Arts Virtual Academy in the Town Hall.
Football fixtures start this week for Year 8 and 9 girls.
We took some students from Year 10 and 11 to the Greater Manchester Schools Athletics competition on the 6th November and are very pleased to report that the girls came 2nd overall and individually David Yinkore won the high jump and we are very proud to announce that he now officially holds the title of Greater Manchester Schools under 16’s Boys High Jump Champion.
The annual GCSE Awards Evening for last Year 11 students will take place on Wednesday 18 November at 7pm. Refreshments will be available and we request students contact School to RSVP to their invitations.
On 3 November 2009, as a very special treat to the year 8s, Mrs Taylor, our Librarian arranged a visit from the author Tom Palmer. Tom is the author of, amongst other books, the children’s football crime book series Football Academy.
Tom spent an enjoyable day with each class holding a quiz, penalty shootout and talking about his life as an author. Year 8 were very interested to learn that Tom travelled to different countries researching his books, and why he enjoys writing football crime stories.
Tom had a fantastic day with year 8 – saying that high school pupils don't usually ask so many questions. He was bowled over by the response of the pupils and the questions they asked.
Before Tom came to the school, Year 8 pupils were asked to produce a poster that related to Tom, his books and his visit. The response was fantastic and there were a lot of great artistic posters produced.
During the day Tom chose one winner and four runners up in the poster competition, advertising his visit. These prizes were presented to the winners at Assembly, by Mr Parratt, Deputy Headteacher.
First prize went jointly to Tomi Sode and Kevin Wetshokonda 8N who received a football net and a football each.
Runners up
- Qirat Lohdi 8H
- Michael Mankowski 8S
- Olivia Fitton 8S
- Sirat Lohdi 8N
All received Footballs and drinking bottles.
Mrs Taylor would like to thank Mr Gittins the Year 8 Manager and all staff who helped to make the day so successful.
There are various activities taking place in school this week to promote Anti – Bullying week which will include on Thursday 19 November a Non Uniform Day and we request that all students pay £1 and wear blue clothes for the day. The monies received will be donated to a charity.
The School will be closed for holidays on 26 and 27 November.
