Beech House 4 – Waterloo Lodge 3
Match Report:
As the small schools football tournament league phase is ending Beech House needed a win against Waterloo Lodge School to ensure they progress to the next stage of the competition. As the game kicked of, Beech House looked the brighter team with crisp passing from Jack Noon and Alex Whittaker carving a couple of decent opportunities early on in the game. Alex Whittaker opened the scoring shortly after finishing a quality cross from Jacob Molyneux. Alex was soon on the score sheet again as he neatly flicked the second past a helpless Waterloo Lodge goalkeeper from a neat through ball by Jack Noon. Aleem Tahir and Ali Nawaz were a tower of strength at the back, shepherded by Jack Noon who commanded midfield throughout the first half. Waterloo Lodge weren’t out of it yet though and started to edge back into the game with some quality passing. The only thing Waterloo Lodge needed was a goal, they hit the post three times, the cross bar and Ben Hirst made some fantastic saves to keep the two-nil advantage, half time couldn’t come soon enough for Mr. Hargreaves. The second half saw the introduction of Dominic Nield who calmed the defence down and allowed Beech House to play football again. This resulted in a great run by Jack Noon taking on three Waterloo Lodge players before being brought down just outside the box. Jack Noon took the free kick himself and scored a peach of a goal. At three-nil anyone would have thought it was game over. It wasn’t. Waterloo Lodge took the ball from the restart and scored an easy goal straight away. The game was getting nervy, until a clever little chip allowed Jack Noon to burst through on goal. Jack took the ball away from the Waterloo defenders only to be brought down within the area. Jack stepped up to take the penalty and hit it directly into the top corner! Alan Shearer would have been proud of it! The score was now four-one but Waterloo rallied and with two quick goals they dragged themselves within two minutes of a draw, but Beech House held on in those dying minutes and took all three points.
All players played well during the game however the players of the match were; Ben Hirst for outstanding goalkeeping throughout the game and Alex Whittaker for quality finishing when it mattered. Well done boys!
