Young artists get creative
Date published: 06 February 2012
Budding young artists from Springside and Hamer School have put on an exhibition of their work.
The pupils of the co-located school enjoyed a joint curriculum day on Friday (3 February) for their Year of Culture and Creativity. Today (6 February) their work was put on display for parents to see.
The theme for the day was ‘visual arts’ and the children learnt about five different artists and then created artwork based on theme of the artists.
They studied Carl Warner, Wassily Kandinsky, L.S Lowry, Paul Jackson Pollock and Rene Magritte.
School Business Manager Lisa Hollywood, described the art work as “lovely.”
She said: “Each year group across both schools joined classes for the day. They chose artists and produced work in the style of that artist.
“Today the children can see all of it, because they have only seen their own work and parents can come in and see it too.
“As a community school we have strong links with the community and invite parents in for anything going on like this.”
Lower Key Stage 2 from Hamer and Springside classes 5 and 6 produced work in the style of Warner using food.
Key Stage 1 Hamer pupils and Springside class 3 created at work in the style of Kandinsky.
Upper Key Stage 2 and classes 7 and 8 from Springside and Hamer focused on Lowry. They worked on sculptures and paintings and replicated work from Lowry.
Foundation and Springside classes 1 and 2 painted in the style of Jackson Pollock and Hamer Year 2 and Springside Class 4 produced work inspired by Rene Magritte.
The school hosts a joint curriculum day each term. Last term their focus was dance.
