Technology Young Designers is a club that has been set up for keen and enthusiastic pupils who have an eye for great design. The club runs every Wednesday afternoon and has so far recruited a niche collection of pupils who want to go the extra mile. By attending the club, pupils have been able to explore their creativity and discover how products are designed and made, whether it is a simple school chair to something for a home; a similar design process is undertaken. The purpose of the group is to allow pupils to gain extra experience in Technology and develop skills that will give them a rare opportunity to do an extra GCSE in the subject. Anyone interested should see Mr. Wadhia.

Members of the bus services sub-committee met on Friday 5th October and agreed to make changes to reflect the current pricing structure in the market and to ensure that the best value was provided to passengers. As a result the cost of transport for Greater Manchester’s weekly scholar’s bus ticket is to drop from £8.50 to £7.00 with effect from Monday 29 October 2012. This weekly ticket can only be used on dedicated school bus services when an IGO card is presented. Details can be found on www.tfgm.com.

Many thanks to the CALL classes and two artists who worked together on Monday 15th October as part of a forthcoming ‘New Pioneers’ celebration and Exhibition at Touchstones on Thursday 25 October 2012 from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Students in Year 7 examined the issue of food and resource sourcing and co-operative work and produced items for display at the free exhibition. We hope that parents of the classes can go along and celebrate the work of our learners.

Many thanks to all the parents, learners and friends of school who joined us for our Twelve Degrees North Showcase on Thursday evening. The regionally renowned dance company performed to a perceptive audience and showed some fantastic contemporary dance pieces, performed to the highest standard.

We are delighted to announce our involvement in a project with the Halle Orchestra where we ‘adopt a player’. We will be working with the nominated player from the orchestra and composing and performing a piece centered on the tale of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The music created from the project will be performed at a concert in March. The project will also feature link work with several primary schools. See Ms. Williams for more details.

Poor weather cancelled our CEPA visit to Pendle Sculpture Trail last Saturday but the visit has been rescheduled for Saturday 10th November. Please see Mr. DeCourcey if you would like a visit letter as the event is open to all years but is offered on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

Entries for our ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ competition are still being accepted. All completed coloured entries should be returned to the CEPA office before the end of day 17/11/12.
