Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 24 March 2014

Last week, more of our fabulous children represented the school at the Rochdale Music Festival. The children in Reception went to the Town Hall on Tuesday and did an absolutely brilliant performance of ‘Grandma’s Rap.’ Not only were they stunning within their own right but they were the youngest children in their class. What a superb achievement from our ‘Talented Tinies!’ .The Reception class were awarded the Citizens of the Week for week ending 21 March 2014 for their fantastic performance.

On Friday 21 March Mrs Smith and Ms Cunnew took a group of Year 4 children to Castleton swimming baths to take part in a mini water polo competition. After making it to the final with some tough matches, our children were victorious and won the whole competition. This is a brilliant achievement – well done!

As reported last week, Mrs Coward runs a drumming club in school every week. A group has now been chosen to take part in the IPLCN musical instrument event at Heybrook Primary School in June. They will be performing alongside the other 11 IPLCN schools and we look forward to hearing all about it.

Living Eggs - As you know, all of our eggs have now hatched and many of you have been following their progress via the website. The children have gained an enormous amount from watching their development – what an exciting real life learning experience they have had!

As all Parents/Carers know, the school does not authorise any extended holidays or absence from school due to a child being abroad and/or on holiday. There are times, however, occasions where parents and carers are still choosing to take their children out of school. This will go down as an unauthorised absence. However, Parents/Carers MUST all make an appointment with either Mrs Flynn or Mrs Cunningham to inform them of your intentions in plenty of time as the school is responsible for reporting on absence on a daily basis. Without this information a child will be reported to the Local Authority as a ‘child missing education’ and this is then followed up immediately by the education welfare team. Please ensure that you continue to communicate with the school within an appropriate time frame.
