This week’s Year 8 Celebration Spotlight on Achievement awards go to: Abeel Hussain, for his dedication, enthusiasm and organisation when preparing for his Robot Art project; and Chloe Brannick, Phoebe Massey, Caleb Grout, Ruta Opincane, Lydia Entwistle and Shannon Doyle for their musical performance of the Reggae classic Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. Special mention must go to Luke Barrett who, this week, receives the Oulder Hill Year 8 Homework Oscar for his stop animation video.

Well done to the Cricket Team who have made the final of the KS3 Rochdale Schools’ Competition. They comprehensively beat Holy Family who scored only 63 runs whilst Oulder Hill had made 116 runs in their first innings. Star performances were from Lewis Midgley, Thomas Booth and Danny Devine who scored 25 runs each before retiring.

The team were as follows: Danny Cryer, Anees Khan, Junayd Hasan, Danny Devine, Saud Zahid, Lewis Midgley, Babar Rashid, Mohid Ul-Haq, Joe Wrest, Emmerson Bradshaw, Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe, Adam Latif and Thomas Booth. This means that both the KS3 and KS4 teams are in the finals. Well done to all students and staff involved!

The Science department has recently taken each year group on a different reward trip, in recognition of the students’ hard work and dedication to the subject throughout the school year. Year 7 students went to Chester Zoo on Tuesday 24 June, where they had a day with the animals and followed a classification trail. Students looked at the different classifications the animals could be put in, and the day was enjoyed by all especially as the weather held out and it only rained on the way home!

A group of Year 8 students spent Monday 30 June at the Museum of Science and Industry. They explored the museum and spent an hour on the experiment floor, getting hands on experience of science and technology. All the students had an enjoyable, informative day.

Year 9 students went to Jodrell Bank, Cheshire on Wednesday 9 July. Students participated in a Forces Workshop where they investigated a variety of different forces and tested out some of Newton’s theories. They also went to a planetarium and looked into space, and had the opportunity to explore the grounds and see the Lovell telescope. Year 10 students attended The University of Manchester on Thursday 17 July.

Students took part in a practical based session; a bog body mystery. This session provided students with knowledge of the real-life applications of science and also gave first-hand experience of using laboratory equipment. By analysing the available clues and completing a scientific practical, students took on the role of a Forensic Expert to solve the mystery of some unknown human remains.

Congratulations to the Year 9 Girls Rounders team who have been crowned Rochdale Champions! They played six straight games with no rest in-between and won every game!

Their results were:

  • beat Hollingworth (4-2), beat Middleton Tech (7-1),
  • beat St Cuthbert’s (4-3), Kingsway Park (8 ½ -1 ½),
  • beat St Anne’s (5 ½ - 1 ½) and beat Siddal Moor (6 ½ - 1).
  • Total rounders scored by Oulder Hill were 35.5!

The team was made up of: Sophie Charlton, Jess Harrison, Alina Akbar, Olivia Storto, Samiya Karamat, Moet Griffiths, Ella Hilton, Katie Fitton and Zara Ahmed. Well done girls!

The team consisted of: Abbie Holt, Melissa Chambers, Holly Fitton, Natasha Downton, Charlotte Davies, Lauren Doyle, Alana Percy, Brooke Needham, Olivia Lindsay, Natalia Dec and Olivia Hartley.

A group of students and staff recently returned from a trip to France, where they visited various locations and landmarks. The group stayed at Chateau Beaumont in Normandy where the students participated in nightline and aeroball activities as well as tasting snails and frogs’ legs. They were all credit to the school and had a fantastic time.

School closes for the summer holidays at 1:00pm on Tuesday 22 July. We hope you all have a fantastic break and we look forward to welcoming our new and existing students back to school on Wednesday 3 September at 8:25am.
