Pupil Voice - Student Council

Our newly elected Student Council members met this week to discuss items such as, What is the role of the council and the members? This first meeting was excellent and I know that we are going to have another very successful year working with our new members. So congratulations and well done to Dale, Elle, Alicia, Ethan, Rodrigo, Luke and Dylan in Key Stage 3, Chris, Kaan, James, Ellis and Billy in Key Stage 4 and Callum, Paul and Jordan in the 6th Form.

Family Halloween Disco

This family event will take place on Tuesday 21 October, 6pm to 8pm, and all families are invited to attend. There will be refreshments, pie and peas, fancy dress competitions and a disco. Please make a note in your diary to attend this RedAid family function.

Year 7 Parents / Carers

A date to note is Tuesday 11 November, 3.30pm – 5.00pm for Year 7 parents / carers to attend meetings with form tutors to discuss your son / daughter`s progress in the first term.

School Photos

On Thursday 16 October, we will be hosting our school photo event and all pupils will have their photograph taken by a professional company, supported by staff, and details will be sent home of the process to purchase this special momentum and photograph.

Key Stage 4 Celebration Assembly

A date for diaries - a special awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of last year`s Year 11 pupils will take place on Wednesday 22 October, 10am – 11.15am, at The Gracie Fields Theatre. This is an opportunity to watch and listen to exploits of youngsters who ` Achieve their Personal Best `and have made amazing progress. Parents and carers will receive a letter of invitation to this event next week.

6th Form Year 1 Parents Coffee Morning

A big thank - you to all parents / carers for your support at the coffee morning. The feedback was excellent and it gave you an opportunity to meet the staff, ask questions related to the various vocational routes on offer and meet other parents and carers of Year 12 students.

After School and Youth Club programme

The online booking system for the October half term club has now closed and parents / carers will be informed of the outcome in the next few weeks. The after school clubs last week attracted 96 pupils taking the opportunity to take part in clubs such as multi sports, cookery, crafts, hair and beauty, ICT, music, football, film, Wii and swimming. Something for everybody . 36 students also attended the Youth Clubs during the week. For more details please visit the website.

KS4

This week the music and sensory group made guitars for Brit pop week. They had a great time plincking and ploncking.

Key Stage 4 MANTRA students spent 4 months last year building a kit car to race. On Wednesday 24 September they took part in the National Green Power Challenge at Aintree Race Course. Thirty eight schools and colleges took part altogether...some of them had really posh cars. Our car also performed really well and we came 22/38. The students were amazing, their behaviour and attitudes were impeccable, they were really good sports.

Fabulous fox Fridays continue this week with students making cards and keyrings.
Miss Doggett was extremely impressed with her 4M&U art classes this week. They had to draw a cylinder in charcoal, which is no mean feat...all students rose to the challenge.

KS5

Student of the Week

Sofia for increased participation in lessons and communicating more. Generally, Sofia has been working hard in class and has shown that she is a star.

Most improved Student

Kelsey for settling in to 6th form so well. She has been working well at college on the Animal Care programme and she has been making a big effort in Sports. Great Start to the year Kelsey.

Sohail, Luke, Ryan, Billie , Alex and Louis have been learning about different jobs in the Care sector. This week they had a go at looking after a smart doll-Annabelle in preparation for meeting a real baby later on. All the students were very gentle.

Last Friday was the start of the Interns Springhill Charity Project. This venture involves students providing a range of services in order to obtain donations for the Springhill Hospice Charity Organisation on a weekly basis. Services will include: car washing, valeting, grounds maintenance, café & shop duties and administration tasks. The students managed to raise £30 on Friday and this was only supposed to be a training day. All students worked really hard and the future looks extremely promising.

KS3

Pupils have been enjoying break times outside on the MUGA (multi use games area); some play football, tig, imagination games whilst some pupils just like to chat and sit at the table with their friends.

Year 7 Red English explored Neverland during their film narrative topic.

Enrichment Group D visited Aldi in Middleton to buy strawberries and blueberries for their next lesson on colours.

“The Tiger Who Came To Tea” – The Tiger from the story went on a trip into the community with Year 8/9 Yellow.

A big Thank You and congratulations to two of Redwoods Young Leaders Shane and Luke for speaking publicly in front of over 60 adults during the Key Stage 3 open day.
Year 8/9 Green have been making scenery for their animations in computing. As a group they have chosen their theme to be on farms.
