Olivia Frain in Lancashire Under 15s girls’ rugby team

Date published: 07 October 2014

Olivia Frain, 14, from Littleborough, has been selected for the Lancashire Under 15s girls’ rugby team.

Olivia regularly watches the boys’ teams playing rugby at Littleborough Rugby Club with a group of friends and over the summer holiday the girls decided they should put together an all-girl team. After a few weeks of playing for the Littleborough team, Olivia and fifteen of her team mates were invited to the trials for the Lancashire Under 15s team.

Olivia says: “When I went to the trials, I didn’t think I’d have a chance of making the team as I’d only started playing rugby a few weeks before. So when I found out I was in, I was shocked but really excited. I’m looking forward to beginning training and playing for the Lancashire team.”

Just two out of the 15 girls who attended the trials from the Littleborough team made the Lancashire team.

Olivia, who is a Year 10 pupil at Wardle Academy, began training on the 5 October and is looking forward to her first tournament on Sunday (12 October) where all the counties from the north of England will be represented at the Vale of Lune RUFC, Lancaster.

David Beresford, Head of PE at Wardle Academy says: “We are proud and pleased with Olivia’s achievement and look forward to her representing the county on a regular basis.”
