How we remembered them

On Tuesday, 11 November, St. John’s held a special assembly to commemorate the lives of soldiers and civilians who lost their lives in the two World Wars and conflicts since then.

Children have been learning how soldiers fought to bring peace to many parts of the world. Without the sacrifice of these soldiers many parts of the world, including Great Britain, would be under oppressive rule and we would not enjoy the freedoms that we have today.

Children brought in photographs of their great grandparents/uncles, and Mrs Stewart brought in her father’s service medals from World War II.

A two minute silence was observed by all.

Coffee and cake afternoon

A coffee and cake afternoon will take place on Friday, 14 November in the school hall to raise funds for Project Harar. Please come and join us between 3pm and 4pm for a cup of tea/coffee and enjoy a cake or two. Cakes can be purchased to take home.

School photographs

Orders for school photographs should be handed to the school office no later than Friday, 21 November. Please ensure you clearly write your child’s name, class number, photographs required and enclose the correct amount of money in the envelope provided.

Parent’s questionnaire

Please return the parent’s questionnaire to the school no later than Friday, 14 November. Thank you.

Free School Meals

If you have not yet returned the free school meal application, please do so as soon as possible. The school receives extra funding for every child entitled to free school meals; this funding is used to purchase vital educational materials for the school.

Applications returned to the school have been passed to the benefits office; each application will be checked for eligibility to free school meals and if you qualify, you will receive a letter from them.

Sports

Our sports teams are continuing to play extremely well and have recently competed in the following events:

Thursday, 6 November - year 5/6 Gymnastics team competed at Cardinal Langley and achieved bronze position.

Friday, 7 November St. John’s played football at St. Vincent’s.

Monday, 10 November – St. John’s girl’s football team played against Holy Family at St. John’s. The score was a draw of 2-2.

Punctuality reminder

Don’t be a white rabbit and arrive at school on time. Parent/carers, please ensure your children are in school before 9am. Too many children are arriving late for school which is extremely disruptive for classes.
