Wardle Academy bands at Remembrance Parade

Wardle Academy Youth and Intermediate bands at the Wardle Village Remembrance Parade

On Sunday, 9 November, the Wardle Academy Youth and Intermediate bands paid their respects by playing at the Wardle Village Remembrance parade.

The band paraded from the Wardle Village Church, down to the war memorial where a service was held at the Cenotaph.

The band were joined by uniformed organisations, children from local schools, several local Councillors and Rochdale’s MP, Simon Danczuk.

Wardle Academy’s Head Boy, Elliot Eaton, Head Girl, Martha Southall and Deputy Head Girl, Paige Yarker, laid the wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf of Wardle Academy and Laura Conway played the Last Post before the two minutes’ silence.

Janet Emsley, Director of Performing Arts at Wardle Academy, said: “The young people represented Wardle Academy with pride and it was good to see so many people from the village turn out to see and join the parade which was one of the best attended I have seen.”

The band continued the tributes on Tuesday, 11 November, as several band members played the Last Post before the two minutes’ silence at 11 o’clock.

Isabel Whiteley, Harry Tait, Bronwyn Archer and Chloe Helme played in the school for the pupils of Wardle Academy to pay their respects; Meghan Ashworth and Emma Whitworth played at Rochdale Town Hall in the Act of Remembrance at the Rochdale Cenotaph.
