Congratulations to the Year 10/11 Boys’ Badminton Team, who finished second at the Rochdale Schools’ Badminton Tournament. Of the four games they were involved in, the boys won three and lost one. Their finishing position means the team will now go on to represent Rochdale at the Greater Manchester Schools’ Games Competition. Well done to the students involved: Ibrahim Ansari, Morgan Stubbs, Joe Wrest and Haseeb Ul-Rehman.

Well done to the Girls Badminton Team who came joint first on points with two other schools at the Rochdale Schools’ Badminton League. They won all four matches; finishing third place overall on game count back, achieving bronze medals. The students involved were: Alina Akbar, Olivia Storto, Samiya Karamat and Moet Griffiths. A big thank you to Mr Kelly who has been putting on after-school training for the girls during the Badminton Club on Monday afternoons (3:00-4:00pm).

On Tuesday 11 November, three students from Year 9 and three students from Year 10 attended the Rochdale Celebration of Faith event at St Martin’s Church. Rachael Ayres played The Last Post and Hannah Mortimer read a Bible passage during the Remembrance Service. Hannah, Rachael and Rebecca Gill also read out a poem and Babar Rashid, Fahad Anwar and Maryam Sardar took work they had completed on Remembrance in Religious Studies. There were a number of Rochdale schools at the event as well as members of the public and the Mayor of Rochdale, who were all really impressed with students’ work.

Our Year 9 Gifted and Talented Enrichment event will take place on Wednesday 26 November. During this ‘Enterprise Day’ pupils will work together in teams to design, manufacture and present trophies that will be used for our KS3 Pupil of the Year awards. Pupils will be allocated different faculties and they will design and manufacture the trophies before presenting this to a judging panel, somewhat in the style of Dragon’s Den.

We will be hosting our annual Celebration Evening on Thursday 27 November from 6:00pm. This is a wonderful event that allows us to celebrate and share the achievement of students over the last academic year, and is a great opportunity for recent leavers to catch up with their friends.

Several Year 9 students entered the Young Writers’ national writing competition War of Words, which involved writing conflict-themed poems. A selection of pupils, listed below, have had their work selected for publication in War of Words – The Midlands & The North. This is a huge achievement for those students involved, a big well done to: Madihah Aslam, Zoya Gill, Rachael Wilson, Kailie Howarth, Aysha Jamil, Hussaam Faheem, Zara Bradley-Ahmed (two entries), Sarah Down (two entries), Thomas Booth, Aqsa Hussain, Emily Cavanah, Loren Brand, Maryam Sardar and Caitlin Rea. A big thank you to Miss Woodward who organised this.

Last Tuesday, 45 Year 9 Art students went to Manchester Art Gallery, where they had the opportunity to tour the gallery and make sketches and studies of their favourite art work, as well as recording their opinions. This visit counts towards three assessment objectives for their GCSE coursework.

This year’s School Production, the Oulder Hill Variety Show, takes place on Wednesday 3 December at the Gracie Fields Theatre. The show starts at 7:00pm and will finish at approximately 9:00pm.
