Key Stage 3 Badminton

Well done to the Key Stage 3 Badminton team who achieved a silver medal in the Rochdale Schools’ Badminton Competition. They were unlucky not to win the tournament having been beaten by Holy Family in the final 3 games to 2. The team won their group comfortably, beating the eventual winners Holy Family in the first game and then defeating Kingsway Park and Falinge. They then played Siddal Moor in the semi-final and beat them 5-0. The players involved were: Marcus Welsby, Rory Lee-Potter, Jack Turner and Lewis Hamer. They will now go on to represent Rochdale along with Holy Family at the Greater Manchester Games. We will let you know how they get on.

Year 9 Rugby team

Last week, the Year 9 Rugby team participated in their first 15-a-side game of Rugby against Woodhey High at Rochdale Rugby Union Club.

Oulder Hill started on the front foot with excellent work from Daniel Madeley resulting in a try from Matthew Greenwood. This early try settled the team and other tries soon followed from Dayne Stewart, Matthew Greenwood and Daniel Madeley. Woodhey then returned and started to put some pressure on our forwards, yet excellent tackling from Muzamil Bashir, Callum Ruffell and Max Weaver-Bamford prevented them from scoring. Hayden Lewis then countered the attack from Woodhey to open his scoring for the evening. Woodhey finally scored on half time, but this didn’t dampen the spirits as they came in for their half time team-talk. The second half started well with Hayden Lewis scoring a spectacular try off the opposition’s kick.

Matthew Greenwood then added two more tries before a late full length try from Woodhey. Hayden Lewis kicked very accurately with the boot, scoring 6 out of 8 attempts. Outstanding performers were Matthew Greenwood, Daniel Madeley and Hayden Lewis. The final score was Oulder Hill 62-12 Woodhey. The team members were: Dayne Stewart (1 try), Jack Turner, Callum Ruffell, Jordan Parkhill, Ethan Pope, Zaki Bowden, Muzamil Bashir, Nelson McKeown, Eddy Riley, Max Weaver-Bamford, Emmerson Bradshaw, Liam Hicks, Hayden Lewis (2 tries), Matthew Greenwood (4 tries) and Daniel Madeley (1 try). Thank you to Mr Bardsley, Mr Jackson and Mr Colenutt for coaching the team.

Mission Christmas appeal

Here at Oulder Hill, we are participating in the Key 103 Mission Christmas appeal. Form 10A have pledged themselves and their classmates to raise 1000 toys and £1000 in cash for the appeal which supports disadvantaged children across the Greater Manchester area. If you know any of our pupils and would like to help with the appeal, please pass them new, unwrapped gifts for babies, toddlers, children and teenagers aged from 0-18 years. It could be anything, of any value. The point is, it will make somebody’s Christmas. Thank you for all of your support.

Spotlight on Achievement Award

Year 9 have been following our school aims and have been ‘achieving excellence’ in many different areas. Following on from our Year 9 Readathon in aid of Springhill Hospice: Mitchell Thompson, Elisa Shafi, Jade Lomax and Lucy Crabtree visited the Hospice to deliver the money they had raised and were given a tour by Lillie Winterbottom to see the fantastic things that go on there. These students will now be leading the future Year 9 charity fundraising activities in aid of the Hospice. Last week’s Spotlight on Achievement Award winners were Madihah Aslam, Chloe Buckley and Hannah Mills for their dedication and hard work in ICT and Dance. This week’s award winners are: Emily Cavanah, for her excellent performance in her Italian language assessment and Caitlin Rea and Rachael Wilson for consistently striving to be the very best they can be and excelling in their Spanish lessons. A special mention to the Year 9 students who were involved in the Badminton Competition: Marcus, Rory, Jack and Lewis.
