St John’s RC Primary School

4 December : Advent Mass
A whole school Advent Mass will be held in St. John’s Church, 10am on Thursday, 4 December. All parents and carers are invited to come and join us.

11 December : School Christmas dinner
The school Christmas dinner will be held in the school hall on Thursday, 11 December. If your child is normally on a packed lunch and would like to join the festivities, please book their dinner with their class teacher no later than Monday, 8 December. The cost of the meal will be £1.90

19 December : Last day of school
The school will close at 3pm on Friday, 19 December for Christmas. Children should be back in school at 8.50am on Monday, 5 January.

21 December : Christingle
A Christingle Service will be held in St. Gabriel’s Church, Castleton at 3pm on Sunday, 21 December. All families are welcome, in particular, those taking part in the sacramental programme this year. We hope that you can attend; Father Michael would love to see you there.

Holy Family
Over the next 3 weeks, as part of our Advent celebrations, children will be taking turns to take home one of our Holy Family sets. The sets include Nativity figures, a candle, prayer cloth and card.

Families are asked to help their children welcome the Holy Family into their homes this advent in preparation for the birth of Christ at Christmas.

Please ensure all dinner money, music, karate, breakfast club and homework bills are up to date before the end of this term.

Admission to primary school
Please ensure you apply for a reception place for your child before 15 January 2015. All applications should be returned to the education department, RMBCor you can apply online at www.rochdale.gov.uk/schooladmissions

Church news
Parish Christmas Carol Service
A service of carols and readings followed by refreshments of mince pies and mulled wine will take place on Sunday 14 December, 3pm at St. John’s Church.

The winning tickets for the Christmas Raffle will be chosen and gifts will be handed to the children by a seasonal visitor.

A warm welcome awaits you – no admission fee but a collection will be taken for church funds.

Christingle Service, a family celebration of the ‘Light of Christ’ to be held in St. Gabriel’s Church, Castleton at 3pm on Sunday, 21 December.
