‘What a star!‘

Date published: 19 December 2014

Congratulations to the Hamer Community Primary School Foundation and KS1 Units who worked very hard on their recent production of their nativity ‘What a star!‘

It is the story about a little star who manages to find his brightness ready for the most important job of all.

The two performances were well attended and everyone enjoyed the shows. Well Done.

We would like to thank all the parents and families who came to enjoy and to take part in our Christmas Carol Concert. What a lovely way to celebrate the end of term.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Winter Fair, after school on Tuesday. It proved to be a huge success and we managed to raise over £250.00 for charity.

A special thank-you must go to Father Christmas, who took time out of his busy schedule to attend and make it a very special experience for young and old alike.

Earlier this week, Councillor Blundell came into school to meet with our Child Road Safety Team who passed on the concerns of our community over the state of the subway.

Councillor Blundell has promised to ensure that flooding no longer happens and is helping us to think of ways to work together to improve the general appearance of the subway. Hamer school has suggested a summer art project to improve the subway…..watch this space!!

Changes or additions to contact forms can only be made in the school office and not by arrangement with class teachers or assistants in the classroom. This system is non-negotiable as it is about keeping children safe. Thank you.

Please can all parents engage with their children on their Maths Passports homework packs over Christmas .It is crucial that the basic skills development that these promote is addressed continually and without a prolonged break. The impact that this will have at school will be great and we thank you, as always, for the good parent support and learning partnership.

On Friday 19 December we said goodbye and good luck to Miss Fagan who has been covering in lower key stage two for Mrs Smith while she was on maternity leave. We all give a huge thank you to Miss Fagan who we all appreciate so very much. THANK YOU

A reminder to all parents please can they make sure that all non-emergency appointments are made outside of school time and that, if a family situation arises where childcare is of a concern to you, all options are explored before any request to take children out of school early are made. It is proven that these interruptions have negative consequences for children’s learning and, in many cases, other measures can be taken to prevent this. Thank you.

Other recent activities included a visit by StarDome Mobile Planetarium .The pupils learnt about the Earth, Sun and Moon and how do these objects interact with each other? Why do we get different seasons? Why does the Moon look different throughout the month? The children had the opportunity to find out the answers to these questions and more before looking at the night time sky (in the planetarium).

Also we had a visit from “The Pop Project”. The Pop Project is experienced teachers and musicians, who deliver an interactive history of music of the past 60 years.
They came into Hamer school to deliver presentations to Foundation, KS1 and KS2.
The KS2 presentation consisted of a historical journey through popular music from the 1950s to the present day, covering not only the music but also the culture and lifestyle of the times. The music was also supplemented with live music, pictures, video clips and artefacts of the period to make the experience truly interactive.
The KS1 and Foundation presentation consisted of a journey through the decades, whilst singing lively action songs that even the youngest of children joined in with.

This year the staff of Hamer Primary School decided to donate selection boxes to the Rochdale Food Bank instead of sending Christmas Cards to each other. We would like to thank Mrs Mullane for arranging this thoughtful gesture.

Well done to Miss Weavers Class for the best attendance for week ending 12 December 2014.

The class with the best attendance for the whole of the Term was Miss Birchenough’s class who were rewarded with a visit to the cinema on Thursday 18 December to watch “Get Santa”. Well Done.

As we all know, school finishes at 3.15pm and an appropriate adult needs to be in school to collect children at 3.15pm and not later. We do not have childcare after this time and teachers need to use their time after 3.15pm setting up lessons and attend meetings and training sessions. Can all families please ensure that an appropriate adult, whose name and details are on the contact forms we hold for you in the office, arrives no later than 3.15pm for afternoon collection. Thank you

The school closed on Friday 19 December and we wish everyone a lovely time over the holidays and look forward to a new term in the New Year beginning on Monday 5 January 2015.
