Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our parents and carers and young people a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful new year. This week has seen a variety of festive activities in all departments which ensured a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. A big `thanks` to all the staff for providing such memorable experiences for our youngsters.

Parental Support
As we come to the end of the year I would like to thank parents and carers for your support in all aspects of supporting the work of the school, be it performances, annual reviews, parent’s evenings, specific individual support or celebration and presentations. We will be reporting to parents and carers on a regular basis to give an update on our Post Ofsted Action Plan

Hydrotherapy Pool
It is looking very promising that the pool will be back in action after Christmas and parents /carers will be notified during the first week of the new term via home / school planners and the website.

Staffing updates
One of our excellent teachers, Helen Sheerins, is leaving Redwood at the end of this term. I would like to thank Helen for her commitment, dedication and support during her career at Redwood and wish her the best for her future. She will be missed. Also best wishes go to teachers Kelso Peel and Garry Smith and teaching assistant Helen Wilkinson who are recovering from operations and we all wish them a speedy recovery and a return to Redwood as soon as possible.

Extended School Provision
The programme will commence in the New Year with clubs starting the week 12th January 2015.

KS5
Many of the groups have been out for their form trip this week.

5E had breakfast in Asda, followed by bowling at Sandbrook Park. Adil won with 115, Anees 2nd with 99 and Reece 3rd with 94. Then they went to The Sandbrook for lunch. Most enjoyed a carvery lunch but some had fish and chips.

5AB - Jordan thought the best thing was the Cheese and Onion pie. Komel thought the bowling was brilliant. We didn’t think the students would manage to finish their full plates but how wrong we were.

Some students went on a residential to London. They were met at Piccadilly by a member of the new meet & greet team who not only showed us to their seats but gave them complimentary snack packs and drinks, which was a lovely surprise.

After finding the hostel, near St Paul’s Cathedral, they split into 2 groups and went sightseeing. One group had a whistle-stop tour of the sights while the other group visited the Museum of London and learnt all about London through the centuries. In the evening they enjoyed a meal at My Old Dutch and had extremely large savoury pancakes. Afterwards some had another large pancake with a sweet filling but the most popular dessert was Knickerbocker glory. They spent the rest of the evening at the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park before falling into bed at midnight.

On Wednesday one group visited the Geffrye Museum looking at Christmas through the years then they did some sightseeing looking out for Paddington and Buses on 2 Art Trails throughout the city. The other group continued their whistle-stop tour getting as far afield as Wembley. That evening they ate at a lovely pizza restaurant in Covent Garden before seeing the show Mamma Mia.

On the final day a group visited a Christmas Market outside the Tate while the other group visited the Museum of London. They had a packed lunch on the train back home and arrived to find Manchester very cold and wet, which was a shock after the blue skies of London.

Everyone had a fab time and loved every single minute of the trip.
