Oulder Hill Community School and Language College

Sophie Charlton, a Year 10 student at Oulder Hill, has been selected to play for the England School Girls’ Under 15 football team which is an outstanding achievement as the squad is made up of only 18 girls from across the country. Sophie competed in the final trials just before Christmas and was notified on 16 December of her success. Well done Sophie!

On Monday 19 January we will be holding our first Year 7 Celebration Assembly of the year. This assembly has been designed to celebrate and recognise the achievement made by our students and encourage them to continue this outstanding attitude and effort during the year.

Year 9 Parents’ Evening takes place on Thursday 22 January from 4:00pm. Students should have received letters requesting them to make appointment times. For more information regarding Parents’ Evening, please contact the Year 9 team.

On Friday 23 January our Year 8 Gifted pupils will take part in a ‘Space Day’. This is an enrichment event in which students will learn about some of the fundamental Maths and Science behind space exploration, the solar system and space travel. They will have the opportunity to build and launch rockets, visit an inflatable planetarium and find out all about the realities of Space travel. They may even get to sample astronaut food! This is an annual event for our Year 8 Gifted students and participants are always very enthusiastic about the event. They benefit greatly from working with their peers in a different context and they have the opportunity to see how what they learn in the classroom can be applied to the wider world.

Students participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award will be undertaking a training day and walk on Saturday 24 January. We hope the weather is kind to them, and that they have a good day.

Year 11 students completing the IGCSE English course will be assessed on their Individual Speaking presentations between 26 and 29 January 2015, worth 20% of their final grade. Students will receive a personal time and venue for their assessment in due course. Please encourage your son or daughter to use their time wisely and ensure preparation is underway. Thank you, Mr Lynch.
