Healthy Schools Status
The local authority Quality Assurance Group will carry out a moderation visit to Redwood to celebrate good practice and report on the processes in place. The specific area to be reviewed is how we support the emotional health and well being of our youngsters. Members of the Student Council will play a prominent role in discussing the work school does and also giving the team a guided tour of the school.

Y7 Annual Reviews and Y11 My Plans meetings
This week has been busy for school hosting the various `My Plan` meetings for Years 11 students taking place. Year 7 students annual review meetings have reflected how well they have settled into their first term at Redwood. Well done to all concerned and thanks to parents and carers for your support.

'Bag Packing' at Morrison`s Rochdale
On behalf of RedAid, staff have managed to access a fundraising opportunity which will take place on Saturday 24 January at Morrison`s in Rochdale. Any parents or carers and youngsters who wish to take part in the bag packing please contact school for more details. Your support would be much appreciated.

Student Council - January meeting
Our first council meeting of the year took place this week and was chaired for the first time by the newly elected Chair of the Council, James Pomroy and the Vice Chair Paul Diamond. A local councilor, Donna Martin, attended the meeting to meet our council members and discuss her role within the community. The council also had an input from various staff from the LA to give updates on the `My Plan` review process. The meeting was also attended by the Chair of Governors, Mrs Sherriff and Mr Murphy, parent governor. The members input and enthusiasm was excellent – well done to all concerned!

P2P Inclusive Rowing Championships
All students, regardless of ability, will have the opportunity to take part in the rowing championships at Redwood on 21 January. This is an inclusive rowing programme and I am sure all students will enjoy the activity.

KS3

Mrs Stott is making all the Year 8&9 students feel hungry in lessons, because they are using fast food meals to make a spreadsheet.
 
A mixture of Enrichment group pupils visited Wing Yip in Manchester to support their learning about the Chinese New Year. Pupils looked at some interesting, weird and wonderful foods including living lobster and crabs and also loved the colourful Chinese decorations.
 
Yipee our Hydrotherapy Pool is now back in action, so far 3 pupils in KS3 have been in and enjoyed their session.
 
During a joint P.E & PSHE lesson Year 7 Yellow spent some time at Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary. “It was our turn for the bus this week. The weather has been too wet to visit a park for our PE session so we decided to visit Bleakholt animal sanctuary where we enjoyed walking around visiting the dogs and cats and some of the farm animals.”
  
KS3 will pause or stop their lesson to listen to the song “The Cool Green Garden” and look at the slideshow of Callum while Alicia, Katelan and Joshua will release the balloon at the same time as a mark of respect and remembrance to Callum.

KS5

Students have been visiting Hopwood Hall college for their Animal Care programme. They met a variety of exotic creatures such as a snake, a tarantula, a lizard, a snail and a cockroach. Jordan said his favourite was the spider.
 
Some of our students have the opportunity to have rebound Therapy.
“It helps with balance, confidence and students who used to be wary now can’t wait to get on and have a go." 
 
KS4

We managed to raise a total of £112.50 for Movember which is a fantastic effort.
Thanks again for all your support.  So far Redwood has contributed £376.50 to this worthwhile cause.
 
This week students from SEB have been wearing space helmets and going into outer space. The creative group learnt to draw a fox out of squares and create a lovely winter scene calendar. In Art SSC students have been making patterns. They then helped to clear up.
 
The Bridging Year visited the Positive Steps office in Rochdale. They learnt about how Positive Steps can help students after they finish The Bridging Year.
