Kentmere Academy

Date published: 03 February 2015

We have had a very busy and exciting last two weeks and I am pleased to say the snow did not stop us. Thank you to all those who made it in. It was a valuable learning day for us.

Congratulations to our football team who were successful in a tournament at Soccer Factory last week, we came second in our group and just missed out on the next round. A special mention to Harry, Daniel and Rizwaan who scored for Kentmere. Reception did a wonderful parents assembly performance last week all dressed as Super heroes.

Mrs Ogden took a group of children to an athletics tournament at Wardle on Tuesday which was as great experience for them.

On the 1 February Kentmere Primary School officially became Kentmere Academy after joining the Wardle Academy Trust. We are really excited about this as being in partnership with Wardle Academy will give the school many new opportunities. Please note that any cheques payable to school with effect from 1 February 2015 should be made payable to Kentmere Academy.

Mrs Henderson’s Year 3 Class: Year 3 enjoyed a visit from the Dental Team last week to complement our Science and Topic work. We learnt all about the different teeth in our mouth and how to look after them. We were each given a set of teeth and we had to sort them and put them back into the right order. This was quite tricky! We really enjoyed the visit and learnt lots. Did you know that there are four different kinds of teeth? Can you find out what they are?

Miss Day’s Year 5/6 Class: We have been able to get outside to do a spot of bird watching in our brand new secret garden. We spotted all sorts of birds including a flock of starlings, magpies and jackdaws. Omar claimed to have spotted an eagle so if you are in the area keep an eye to the sky!

We also had members of the class representing the school in both athletics and football. Well done to Haider and Falak for their brilliant display in track and field and our super star goal keeper Jake.

On Thursday we had a special visitor to our class. Our Maths was flipped upside down, inside out and back again by the mathematical magic of David Goddfrey and RAPA CODA NUMBO! Ask our pupils for more details and handy tips in mental maths.

Miss Duffy’s Year 6 Class: On Tuesday 20 January, Rochdale Fire Service came in and spoke to our Year 6 children about keeping safe at home. We discussed the different fire hazards that are in the home, the importance of a smoke alarm and what to do if there is a fire. All the children now know a safe escape route out of their house if there is a fire.

Nursery Corner: Last week we learnt about the five senses and how important they are, listened to instruments and noises in and out of school and made coloured binoculars.
