St Gabriel’s CofE Primary Maintains Good Rating

Date published: 05 February 2015

St Gabriel’s Church of England School in Middleton has maintained its ‘good’ rating following an Ofsted inspection towards the end of 2014.

The report found that governance was a key strength of the school and praised its positive climate for learning, with the quality of teaching considered good with some that is outstanding.

Inspectors noted good progress in all subjects and outstanding progress in maths, with pupils given interesting work that captures their imaginations and motivates them well, supported by highly skilled teaching assistants.

The report also recognised outstanding work by the school to keep pupils safe, adding that leaders, managers, governors and teachers were ambitious for pupils and shared a common sense of purpose and commitment for sustained improvement.

Headteacher Karen Race, who joined the school following its previous ‘good’-rated inspection in 2010, said: “This is a very good school with many outstanding features. The last four years have been a great success story as the school has made rapid and sustained improvement.

“I am very proud of both the children and staff in gaining this ‘good’ judgement at a time where it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so, but we will not be satisfied until the school is recognised as ‘outstanding’ in every area.”
