Mission Week

Our Mission Week ‘In Our Own Back Yard’ got off to a great start with guest speakers from Rochdale Food Bank and Springhill Hospice who spoke to pupils about their work and how we can help to support them.

On Monday we were also pleased to welcome Fr Kieren Mullarkey who spoke to pupils about how he became a priest and answered lots of questions about vocation. Square One Dance crew have been with us all week to help us think about how we live our mission. It was their second visit to St Cuthbert's and pupils gave them a great welcome.

Other visitors during Mission Week were Petrus and Rochdale Gateway Leisure who spent time with pupils explaining why their services are so in demand and outlining the support we can give.

We were very proud that our Pupil & Junior Chaplains and our Musical Liturgy Group were commissioned in their roles by Fr Martin during Mass on Wednesday. They bring so much to the faith life of our school.

On Friday we celebrate all that has happened in school during Mission Week in our year group para liturgies delivered by the Pupil & Junior Chaplains. We are delighted that Kyle from the 463 House, Frances and Dermot from Caritas are joining us for one of the liturgies to receive our fund-raising cheque from the COPE team.

Art and Mission

Students have taken part in an Icon painting class at lunchtimes, with Mrs Barszczewska. They learnt how to gild and how to paint using egg tempera.

Students rose to the difficult challenge and really enjoyed creating lovely meaningful icons.

GCSE Drama News

Mrs Knox' Year 10 GCSE Drama groups have been involved in an exciting project with Oldham Coliseum. The project entitled, 'The Dark Night' has been a collaborative venture where the theatre's Learning and Challenge team have run workshops in school. Pupils were then given the task of devising their own drama. On Monday evening our pupils performed at The Coliseum alongside three other local schools. A spine chilling tale of zombies, Halloween and vampires had the audience on the edge of their seats. Pupils really rose to the challenge of performing on a professional stage. A fantastic achievement for all concerned.
