Congratulations to the Oulder Hill Swimming Team who are Rochdale Champions for the second time. The swimming gala took place at Heywood Sports Village and Oulder Hill won the gala by a margin of eight points! The students, from Years 7 and 8, will now go on to represent Rochdale at the Manchester Winter Games on 24 March.

Students will go to an opening ceremony at the Etihad Stadium before being transported to the Aquatics Centre to compete! Well done to Maxx Wright, Adam Partington, Liam Fernandes, Ethan Steel, Catherine Corless, Jess Verity, Isabel Pauline, Emma Hughes and Hollie Griffin.

On Saturday 7 March, 30 Year 10 students who are participating in the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme will be going on an accompanied walk in the Dovestones area. We hope the weather is kind to them!

Year 9 students will be participating in an Emerging Schools Rugby Competition in Trafford this week. We will update you on their progress.

On Wednesday 11 March we will be hosting our second Immersion Day of this academic year. On this day, all students will be off timetable and participating in a variety of enrichment activities. Year 7 students will be developing their teamwork and cooperation skills during a puzzle challenge and discussing self-image versus media portrayal in a bin bag fashion activity.

Students from Year 8 will be participating in a Town Planning Day which will develop their teamwork and design skills. Year 9 students are taking part in a “Who Are You” activity provided by Humanutopia which will help them to overcome the barriers they face in unlocking their potential. Students in Year 10 will be preparing for their upcoming Science exams. Year 11 students are undertaking intervention work in preparation for their GCSEs and will also view a learning performance in the Theatre.

The Humanities Faculty have organised a Ranger from Zoolab to visit Year 8 students in school on Thursday 12 March. The Ranger will discuss the regions of South America, in particular Brazil, to enhance the students’ learning and progress in Geography.

In addition the Ranger will bring with them a variety of exotic animals from the tropical rainforest to inform students’ learning with regards to the layers of the rainforest and the adaptations of the various animals in that environment. Students will be able to have a hands-on experience with a selection of the animals.

National Science and Engineering week begins on Friday 13 March.
