Winter Games- Sports City

There were some great memories and experiences this week at the Greater Manchester Winter Games which took place at various sporting venue across Manchester. Post 16 and U 13 students took part in the rugby competition, and the swimmers also did a brilliant job. I know that the staff who attended were very proud of the students achievements and the Chair of Governors and her husband, who also were there as VIPs, were also very impressed.

'Paul`s Story'

What a day for Paul, his mother and staff who attended the ` red carpet ` nominations at the Empire in Leicester Square, London this week as part of their nomination. They all had a day to remember and Paul, as ever, was an excellent ambassador for the 6th form.

Enterprise Week
The 6th form are busily planning the enterprise week, involving various production lines in operation to sell to willing customers. Individually labelled Easter eggs are amongst the attractions.

Also well done to Asako and her friends in key stage 3 who raised £33 this week selling their home made biscuits. Brilliant.

KS3 Young Leaders – Sponsored Skipping Event

A group of our KS3 young leaders approached me and did a power point presentation requesting permission to organize an inclusive sponsored skipping event. Well done to Shane, Luke, Michael and Ethan for planning this so well.

Redwood Short Breaks

A reminder that the after school clubs and youth clubs will start again on Monday 27 April. The holiday programme will take place during the Easter break.

KS3

In P.E. pupils in 8&9 Purple & Blue challenged themselves with balance. It was very scary but all pupils took part.

Jack, Katelan, Nazmeen & Jordan went to Heaton Park as part of their enrichment topic; they enjoyed looking at and petting the animals.

Robert and his family would like to say a big thank you to LEGO for their kind donation. Robert and his family recently lost everything they owned in a house fire. Mr O’Neill’s partner contacted LEGO and asked if they could help Robert out, as he’s a massive LEGO fan and he lost all of his models in the fire. They very kindly sent Robert some new LEGO sets to replace the ones he lost.

On the 24 March 8 Key Stage 3 swimmers represented Rochdale in the Greater Manchester Winter Games. This is pinnacle of regional sport. The young people were tasked with a 25m freestyle race followed by a 100m relay. All the students behaved and performed impeccably with several of them achieving their personal best times in the pool. Two students completed their 25m individual races in less than 30 seconds. The students involved were David L, Ethan S, Ethan H, Amelia W, Mohammed J, Patrick Y, Dylan B, Ben A.

Alongside the swimming, 6 pupils from KS3 and 2 from KS4 represented Rochdale in the Manchester winter school games at rugby. They played several games; even though they did not win pupils played well as a team, supported each other and had a brilliant time.

Mrs Eaton has only got one week to go to her retirement, give her a week of and she will be bored and want to come back.

8/9 Yellow have been reading the Cheeky Monkey story. Asako was brilliant and worked independently to make cookies, in which they sold at break times in aid of the charity “Children with Cancer” and raised £38.

Key Stage 3 are learning the weekly new signs, this week they are “child minder, man, lady, children” and the sign song of the week is Tina Turner “Rolling on a River”.

About half of 6th form descended on Manchester last week for a celebratory meal at Peachy Keens. There was time for some of us to grab a drink before meeting up for the buffet.

On Tuesday the 6th form Rugby team took part in the Greater Manchester Youth Games. The team played some excellent rugby and won 3 out of their 4 games, only losing to the eventual winners of the competition. For their hard work, they all received a nice silver medal. Everyone in 6th form are really proud of the team. Well done.
