Music for Youth Rochdale Music Festival 2015

A record number of children took part in the Rochdale Music Festival this year. We had children in the Choir, woodwind duets, Brass Ensemble and Woodwind ensemble. The festival spread over 4 days which included this weekend at Wardle.

We are all delighted that the Brass Ensemble came First; they gained Honours and 94 points! Our Woodwind Ensemble was close behind with 90 points! This is a tremendous achievement, as the competition is very fierce!

Staffing
In all schools, especially large schools, there is natural movement of staff at the end of each year. We are pleased that our staff are moving due to promotions and that we are able to replace them with similarly excellent practitioners who will bring all their knowledge and skills to our school.

Mr. Shaw is leaving at Easter to take up a promoted post as Assistant Head teacher and SENCO with Mrs. Windslow at her school The Church of England School of the Resurrection in Manchester. I am sure you join with us on congratulating him on his success, thanking him for his hard work and commitment and wishing him well in his new role.

We are delighted to have appointed Mrs. Mulcaster to the Year 5 team after Easter. Mrs. Mulcaster is a very experienced and highly successful teacher who is moving into this area from Middlesborough.

Miss Holden will be joining Mr. Shaw at his new school in September! Miss Holden will be replaced by Mr. O’Doherty who is already training with us.

Mrs. Howard has also been successful in gaining promotion to Deputy Head teacher at a school in Rochdale for September. Rochdale LA is putting dinner money prices up. As from 20th April, when we return from the Easter break, schools have to charge £2.05p a meal. This is a rise of 5p a day. Dinner money will be £10.25 per week. You may find it easier to pay online through SIMS Agora. Dinner Money and fees such as Lion Club and Nursery can be paid on SIMS Agora.

If you haven't been on the system we will have to reactivate the code. Please ask at the office.

Key Stage One and Two are asking for any spare clothes for children who may need a change of clothes during the day. We are also on the lookout for any dolls or games you don’t need, for wet play times.

Learning challenges for next term;

Nursery; How do plants and people grow?
Reception; ‘..And where do you live? Infinity and beyond!’
Year 1; What has changed since my grandparents were young?
Year 2; Oh, why do we love to be beside the seaside?’
Year 3; Who first lived in Britain?
Year 4; Why is Manchester such a cool place to live?
Year 5; How can we re-discover the wonders of Ancient Egypt?
Year 6; How far does Whitby’s water go? (Will we ever see the water we drink again?)
The wider world and British values.

World Book Day; We celebrated World book day on March 5th by dressing up as a character from our favourite book and bringing this book into school to share. Here are some of the staff!

Although there was no requirement to donate, many parents did donate through school and £130 was raised.

Mothers’ Day (and Special Ladies’) Surprise Room raised just over £400!

Book Fair Week; This is such a convenient way for you to buy books for your children, and school benefits too! The Book fair this year raised £979.84 of which the school have been given £587.00 in credit for books. This enables the school to buy more books for the children, so thank you very much for your support!
