French Trip

Pupils have returned from their French trip to Rue after sampling a delight of chocolate, snails and frogs legs.

Staying in Chateau de Broutel the pupils took part in activities, went to the beach and visited both the battlefields and aquarium.

Pupils particularly enjoyed the visit to the chocolate factory and the wheat farm where pupils made and bought gifts just in time for Mother's day.

The battlefields gave pupils an idea of the size and scale of the WW1 battles and most were able to find their surname on the monument dedicated to soldiers of the war who were never found.

G.C.S.E. pupils were particularly interested in the Welsh monument which is featured in a poem they study in Year 11.

Surprisingly, we later discovered that the soldiers in the Welsh battalion were made up of men who were from all over the North West, especially Rochdale, Oldham and Salford.

Pupils practised their French at a local market and hypermarché, impressing many as they did.

A huge thanks to the staff who accompanied the trip: Miss Dunphy, Mrs Krussmann, Mr Taylor and Mrs White.

National Portrait Gallery

Senior art students went to London to visit the National Portrait Gallery and the National Art Gallery.

They were exploring the works of other artists, as part of their G.C.S.E.

The trip mainly focused on the portraits, Royals: then & now, bringing in major contemporary portraits for the first time, to create a dialogue between today’s royal family and their Hanoverian ancestors.

At the National Gallery the highlight was the work of Peder Balke. He is among the most pioneering painters of 19th-century Scandinavia. He is an artist who looks at the beauty and expressiveness of seascapes, with depictions of stormy seas, towering glaciers and threatening skies, the majority of which have never been seen before in the UK.
They were also able to view other wonderful and amazing paintings from other famous artists.

In addition there was time to gain architectural inspiration from the sights at and around Buckingham Palace.

The taste buds were put to work at Pizza Hut and they were able to draw in the colours, shapes and sounds brought to us by MnM World and through walking in Leicester Square. The day was finished off nicely with a first class return trip to Manchester, courtesy of Virgin Trains.
