Congratulations to the Year 10 boys yet again! An outstanding performance from the team meant that not only have this year group achieved the ‘double’ in the football, but they have also won the Rugby Cup Final which was held at Spotland Stadium at the weekend. The boys fought off Mathew Moss High School to be crowned as champions for the season.

The ever improving Year 10 Rounder’s team competed in the Greater Manchester Catholic Cup last night. Having qualified as top of their group they played Newman College in the semi-final and managed to win 3.5 - 0. The girls progressed to the final to play St Bede's and were narrowly defeated 2-1.5. All of the girls gave a great account of themselves, but special praise is awarded to Emily Buckley who was outstanding on the night.

Primary School News
This week, we invited several Primary Schools to take part in our annual Handball Competition which was held at St. Cuthbert’s. This was organised by Miss Howarth and her Sports Leaders. Various Sports Leaders have been delivering handball coaching sessions in primary school over the previous weeks which has led to a very successful competition. We would like to thank Holy Family Primary School, St. Patrick’s Primary School and Alice Ingham Primary School. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A special mention goes to St Patrick’s who came 1st and 2nd. Well done to all!

Drama News
45 Year 10 and Year 11 Drama students attended a performance of The Woman in Black' at The Lowry. The Year 10 pupils will be using this dark gothic tale as a stimulus for an improvised controlled assessment. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the performance although a few were seriously frightened! The pupils, as always, were impeccably behaved and a credit to the school. The department are looking forward to the different interpretations of this genre as their plays develop over the next few weeks.

Alternative Curriculum News
The students on the Groundwork Trust Programme had a full morning of first aid training delivered by Adam from St John's Ambulance. They learnt how to bandage a wound, the DR ABC method of assessing a casualty, how to put someone in the recovery position, how to perform CPR as well as what to have in a first aid box.

Keaton Mayberry, Megan Clark, Rowan Brandon, Lewis Timmins, Braidy McCormick, Amy Thompson and Mrs Ellidge will all receive a certificate in first aid.
