Science

We have two pupils Joe Maloney and Robert Dunn going 'head to head' on Friday of this week in an attempt to become St Cuthbert's 'Physicist of the Future'. They are giving a talk to 10A1 and 10B1 on a physics topic of their choice. The winner gets invited to attend the Oldham and Rochdale Ogden Partnership Awards at Oldham sixth Form College on 29 June.

Expressive Arts

The Expressive Arts department are pleased to announce that our next production will be a Christmas pantomime. As usual audiences can expect a feast of acting, singing and dance talent. We would encourage anyone who is interested to speak to the Expressive Arts staff. Whether pupils have experience or not does not matter, we are just looking for enthusiasm and commitment. The dates of the show are 10th-12th December. Auditions will be the week commencing 6 July.

Competition:

Calling all talented artists! Expressive Arts are in need of a logo to represent the work of all our subject areas: Music, Media, Art, and Drama. Collect your entry forms from your Art teacher. Prizes such as £20 AND £10 shopping vouchers, and lots of Vivos will be awarded for the most creative ideas! Good luck everyone! Entry sheets are available from your Art Teacher. The closing date is Friday 26 June.

Geography Trip

Staff at St Cuthbert’s took 40 impeccably behaved pupils on a 5 day trip to Naples, Italy during half term. They enjoyed a trip along the Amalfi Coast, took a boat trip over to the island of Capri, visited the ruins of Pompeii and climbed Mt Vesuvius, as well as enjoying some relaxing beach time and visiting other geographical sites. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Chaplaincy News

Congratulations to our pupils who were commissioned as Caritas Ambassadors in a service in our chapel yesterday by Fr David Glover, Episcopal Vicar for Social Responsibility.

The role of the ambassadors is to demonstrate "faith in action" by raising awareness and engagement amongst pupils in school for the work of the Caritas charity throughout Salford Diocese and in our own locality. They were each presented with a certificate and badge by Fr David and afterwards met with him to discuss the future plans for the group.

They will be representing St Cuthbert's at a special Thanksgiving Mass for Caritas/St Joseph's Penny with Bishop John Arnold at Salford Cathedral next week.

Future First

Simon Saju was the lucky winner of a competition run by Rochdale Sixth Form College as part of Future First. Simon was the recipient of an iPad Air. We were delighted to invite Heather Ellison Assistant Principal from Rochdale Sixth form into school to present the award to Simon. Simon was delighted with his new acquisition and promised to use it wisely over half term to revise for his exams!
